Did You Hear About The New Hawaii Law?

Hawaii property owners should be aware of important state requirements regarding existing cesspools. Under Hawaii Act 125, all cesspools must be upgraded or converted to an approved wastewater system, such as a septic system, aerobic treatment unit, or municipal sewer connection, no later than January 1, 2050. In certain situations, including major property renovations or homes located in environmentally sensitive areas, upgrades may be required sooner. These regulations were established to help protect Hawaii's drinking water, groundwater aquifers, coastal ecosystems, and public health from wastewater contamination.
